Ship in Six: Week 1/6
Project: Vue Developers

Why?
To create a new kind of freedom for myself and for other independent developers.
To put power back in the hands of independent developers and provide recruiters with a direct, efficient way to find the best talent.

For whom?
  1. Independent Vue.js developers (freelance, contract, or open to work) looking for their next gig.
  2. Recruiters and hiring managers at tech companies, from small startups to large enterprises, who are looking to hire high-quality Vue.js talent.

How will it look?
  • Minimalist design with a focus on usability.
  • Consistent colour palette based on Vue.js brand colours to create immediate association.
  • Clear and simple user interfaces for both developers (to create a profile) and recruiters (to search and connect).
  • Simple pricing: free for devs, $147/month for companies

How will it work?
  • Developers create profiles, set availability status
  • Companies subscribe to access the database
  • Search/filter by skills, location, experience level
  • Direct messaging between companies and developers
  • Email notifications for new matches/messages
  • Successfully hired devs will receive a celebration package from me

What will users feel?
  • Developers: Empowered, in control, and valued. Less stressful than traditional job hunting. Feel like a professional, not just an applicant.
  • Recruiters: Efficient, strategic, and successful. Confident that they are accessing a high-quality, pre-vetted talent pool. Relieved that they are saving time and effort. Quality over quantity.
  • The Overall Community: A sense of trust and connection. The platform will feel like an exclusive, premium, curated community, not a faceless job board.

What will users do?
  • Developers: Create and update profiles. Respond to messages from recruiters. Spend more time coding, less time job searching.
  • Recruiters: Search the database, view developer profiles, and send personalised messages. Pay the monthly fee and manage their account. Close high-quality hires faster.
  • Both will share success stories, and recommend it to their colleagues.

Got my fav designer Beau Lawson to reimagine the branding. My requirements were:
  • Include the full brand name
  • Square design
  • Techie look
  • Vue.js Blue/Green
  • Works for merch printing

Beau delivered, as always:
Here are the old branding and favicon, for comparison:
It's a decent design. But I couldn't figure out how to print this long string of text onto any kind of swag. I'm going to show you my mockups, but first -

If you're a designer, please look away. I don't want to cause you involuntary convulsions.

To everyone else - this was my best attempt. It's okay-ish for cards and stickers. But I couldn't make it work for cylindrical objects. Splitting it into two lines made it look even more awkward.

Which is why I knew I needed a "square" logo, but zero idea on how to go about it. And that's where a designer's magic saves the day.

That's my Ship in Six Challenge #1 done. Tomorrow I'll sculpt the scope for this project.
